Returning to Mother Divine

Written by:

Sometimes there is a conflict between who we are and who we think we need to be. In that conflict, we end up living in ways that do not fully feel true to us. We feel one thing inside and show another outside. I don’t think most of us do this consciously though. It happens slowly, through years of trying to be accepted, understood, or approved of by the world around us.

Somewhere along the way, many of us begin believing that if society accepts us, then maybe we will finally be able to accept ourselves too. But that moment never fully comes. There will always be someone who dislikes us, misunderstands us, or believes we are not enough no matter what we do.

You may wonder how this is connected to Mother Divine. Even when we do not know the deepest parts of ourselves, She knows. She is present beneath all experience. Nothing within us is outside Her awareness. So when we begin calling out to Mother Divine, something slowly begins to unfold. She starts pulling away the layers we built to survive, to belong, to be accepted. She shows us the parts of ourselves we abandoned along the way. She shows us where we are dishonest with ourselves, where we silence ourselves, and where we have become harsh toward ourselves.

She continues this work within us until one day we notice that we have started to feel more at ease with ourselves. The conflict that once existed between who we are and who we thought we needed to be begins to loosen. Something within us softens. As we begin living from that place of ease, we also start to notice that the distance we once felt from Mother Divine has gone away. Perhaps the closer we move toward ourselves, the closer we naturally move toward Her.
