The crux of Devī Sādhana (spiritual practice) is inner work.
In this path, what has been set aside tends to surface—unresolved emotions, difficult memories, patterns of avoidance, parts of oneself that have been left unattended.
Perhaps this is why Devī has sometimes been associated with fear. Not because She is to be feared, but because of what must be faced.
When approached with devotion and steadiness, Devī brings forward what is ready to be seen, and creates the space to move through it.
In this way, Sādhana becomes a process of meeting what has been avoided.
The only real difficulty here is this:
you are asked to face yourself.
