Connecting with Devī

Written by:

Connecting with Devī, the Mother Goddess, can feel overwhelming at first. The rituals, texts, and the practices—it can all seem distant or complex. When something feels like that, we often avoid it.

But it does not have to begin there.

When we meet someone new, we start by getting to know them. We listen. We learn who they are. Connection grows from familiarity.

The same can be true with Devī.

Start with learning. Begin with the Devī Māhātmya, The Glory of the Goddess. Devadatta Kali’s commentary on this text in In Praise of the Goddess: The Devīmāhātmya and Its Meaning offers a clear way into both the story and its deeper meanings.

As you return to Her stories and words, something shifts. Devī becomes more familiar in your mind and present in your attention.

Connection then begins to form.
